DOWNSIZE? or RIGHTSIZE?
I recieve many inquiries from home owners and THIS
is by far one of the top questions. Why? Simply put.. we are looking
for a change in lifestyle, smaller property to maintain, less work! You
might think that arriving at this point is a big step and it is,
however, what if one partner is not in full agreement? As we move on in
life we all appreciate that "change" is a constant, but when it comes
to our home where we have lived for a number of years, we are
understandably apprehenious. More often than not, it is the female side
of the relationship that initially drives the need for change. Now the
big question.. what type of home will suit both our needs? Do we want
the security and peace of mind living with 'Lock & Leave?'
If you are retired then most probably a Condominium or Adult Orientated Town Home
will be high on your list. Empty nesters that still enjoy an active
career(s) might opt for a smaller, but newer home in a convenient
location. Features such as; modern comfort 'bells/whistles', rooms the
right size, ease of maintenance, possibly a view!
When both
parties have reached a mutual consensous, the next important decision
is 'where and when' do we anticipate making the change. Begin your
search early, ask questions. Make a list of the most important aspects
of daily living that you believe are important to you both. For example:
- Affordability
- Town Home, Condominium or newer Single Family Home
- Adult Orientated or Mixed
- Proximity to Shopping, Transportation, Medical and Leisure Facilities
- Ease of maintenance
- Distance for family and friends to visit
